The Palestinian families living in Area C suffer from many obstacles in preserving the land due to the confiscation of land and natural resources and the restriction of their freedom of movement by the Israeli occupation. We seek, through the livestock program, to strengthen the resilience of these families, to preserve Palestinian land from confiscation and to provide a source of income. In addition, the project will provide livestock for needy families in those areas. This will increase livestock productivity, and improve food security.
Omar is a resident of Al-Walajah Village where his home is one of many amongst his extended family and friends. Israel’s construction of the 30ft high security wall has resulted in Omar’s home being completely cut off from the rest of his family and the remaining village. Omar now requires permission from the army to enter and leave his premises via a military road and he is allowed no visitors from the village.
Whilst his land sits atop a picturesque mountainside, his daily struggles are anything but peaceful. Omar is unable to grow many crops on his land and is unable gain employment due to his age and health.
Determined to ensure he does not give up his land in years to come, Omar built a small single storey dwelling to house his son and his wife. Upon completion of this, he was given two options by the army; have it demolished or take it down himself – brick by brick, Omar dismantled his son’s future home.
With limited income and options, we purchased five adult female sheep for Omar to rear and breed with the males he already owned. This will provide Omar with an economic lifeline going forward.
