Plenty of farmers whose lands are located in Area C suffer from settlers’ attacks on their land and crops. We try hard to protect farmers’ land from these attacks by providing them fences and other materials needed to protect it.
● We met Measar, an elderly woman whose late husband’s ancestral land is now encircled by settlements. This land had no fencing in place and no water supply. Under Israeli law, any land that is untended can be taken into government ownership and therefore, able to be taken over by settlers. Additionally, Israeli regulations do not allow for any new water wells to be dug in any of these areas.
● To prevent the loss of her land, Measar makes a daily 30-mile round trip by bus, carrying as many 2ltr bottles of water as she possibly can – all to be able to farm on the land and ensure it is being used. Like many others, Measar faces a constant intimidation and vandalism campaign, her olive plantation has been burned to the ground on numerous occasions.
● We provided the funds that built Measar a perimeter fence around the entirety of her land, along with two large water storage tanks – providing her the security she requires, as well as a much easier and sustainable solution for the water she requires.
